Voices From Chornobyl asks for your help

10 Mar

If you know me you most likely have heard me talk about this project, Voices From Chornobyl, which I have been involved in for sometime,  if not visit our website for more info (or of course contact me with any questions). The 25th anniversary is fast approaching and we need all the support we can get. The information below details where your money will be going and why it is so necessary. Please read and visit the website and consider making a donation if you are able. If money is tight but you are looking for ways to support us let me know as we are also looking for in-kind donations! See the end of this post for donor gift levels. Also, if you own a business we are always looking for businesses or organizations to partner with for cross promotion.

How can you talk about radiation when the butterflies are flying and the bees are buzzing?” –from the book and play

We’ve come a long way since 2006. We shot a short demo film that charities worldwide use to interest potential donors (thanks to your donations), we have a new nonprofit partner in Enrichment Works, we have a PO Box and bank account, a team of six people working on the awareness, some friendly and new faces in the ensemble. Many of you were with us on that journey and we thank you for every dollar, minute and ongoing support.

We have many plans for 2011 April Awareness events, mostly expanding our audience to children with a brand new interactive script, and making accessibility part of our consistent plans rather than the exception. This includes regular ASL interpreters and visual describers as well as choosing locations that everybody can find via Metro, bike, on a walk, and with their family.

What we can accomplish depends on our community. We want the 25 anniversary to pass with more notice than a short radio retrospective or newspaper article. Our greatest desire is to create a living awareness website, where any child with access to a computer can experience our awareness events as if present.

Also, because of our 2011 Nonprofit Umbrella, Enrichment Works, every donation also supports ongoing arts education in Los Angeles county! Please consider a donation of any size, and note the cross-promotion incentives for people with small businesses. Donor levels are below.

Kathy Ryan, Director of Chernobyl Children International (CCI) Inc, explains how our awareness efforts help her charity:

After the 20 years that Chernobyl Children International has worked in the region, what really strikes us is the resilience of the people who were affected by Chernobyl. Voices from Chornobyl casts a light on the courage of these people. This very courage is why we can be so hopeful about the future. We so much appreciate this effort to bring attention to the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster and — even more important — to the hope that lies ahead.

Thank you again for your commitment to spreading the stories of survivors and those still suffering the effects of a man-made accident twenty-five years ago.

Sincerely,

Cindy Marie Jenkins, Project Director
